GREENE CO. Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A news release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of scam callers asking for money under the guise of the sheriff’s department.
According to the release, a Greene County resident reached out to the sheriff’s office on Thursday to report a scam call in which the scammer was requesting money in the form of gift cards, which all people should be wary of and had the caller ID of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
The release continues and notes that the scammer identified themselves as a representative of the sheriff’s office and that “the public should be aware that the Greene County Sheriff’s Office will not contact anyone requesting payment.”
