VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Several communities in the Wabash Valley were joined by Indiana’s governor today to celebrate recently awarded funding for road projects.

Governor Eric Holcomb was in Loogootee to present checks to a number of local areas that received community crossings matching grants.

The community crossings program started in 2016. It provides state-matching funds for local road improvement projects. Holcomb said since the program started it has provided over 1.2 billion dollars in funding.

“It addresses small and large communities in addition to the roads and bridges funding formula that we have in place, so this is a real, kind of, get to the projects that never would have gotten done type of approach, and it’s always good to see the local communities come out and celebrate the progress that’s being made,” said Holcomb.

The presentations were just a part of the 133.4 million dollars that was announced last month for communities across the state.
