TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Get out your running shoes. We’re just a little over a week out from the annual Turkey Trot in Terre Haute.

Hundreds of people will take part in the 5K and one mile event which happens on Thanksgiving. The race starts at 9 a.m. that day in front of the Hulman Center.

It’s $20 to take part if you bring 5 canned goods, or $25 without any canned goods. The event raises money and food for the First Baptist Food Pantry to help feed people in need. Organizers say they expect 500 to 600 people to take part.

“It’s become a family tradition for a lot of friends and families, etc. So instead of just staying at home on thanksgiving morning, you get to come out with the community, do something really fun, a fun experience together that becomes a tradition,” said Ethan Page, race director.
