VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Florida man was booked into the Vermillion County Jail Monday after an Indiana State Trooper clocked him driving 119 mph with two children under the age of 18 in the car.
When Nathan T. Varner, 41, of Saint Augustine, Fla., was pulled over, he “was very agitated and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance,” according to Indiana State Police.
Varner refused to get out of his vehicle, and struggled with the state trooper who attempted to place him in handcuffs. A passerby stopped to assist the trooper and waited at the scene until other law enforcement officers arrived.
Varner was eventually taken into custody on charges related to driving under the influence, neglect of a dependent, possession of multiple drugs including methamphetamine, heroine, cocaine and marijuana, resisting law enforcement, reckless driving and disorderly conduct.
The two children were released to their grandparents.
