TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A fireworks show will be on display this Friday during the Terre Haute North-South football game to celebrate the return to Memorial Stadium.
The fireworks, which are being sponsored by Pacesetter Sports, will go off during the national anthem as well as whenever a team scores. Additionally, a fireworks show will occur at halftime, with a larger show to follow at the end of the game.
One of the goals of the event is to help get the community more involved in local schools and sporting events. The North-South game has been taking place for the last 50 years.
“We’re just real excited to keep promoting that rivalry and try to make it a bigger event than ever this year,” Pacesetter Sports owner Brent Compton said.
While the community is looking to get involved in the rivalry, members of the two teams are looking forward to the game itself.
“We’re super excited to be back in Memorial Stadium,” Terre Haute North head coach Billy Blundell said. “It always adds an extra level of excitement to be able to play in a big atmosphere like that.”
“It just gets really loud and just playing on a college field and college turf, I think it will amp our players up for the game,” TH South head coach Tim Herrin said.
A similar fireworks display will take place during senior night at West Vigo High School on Oct. 15. They will be playing the Sullivan Golden Arrows.
