WABASH VALLEY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana Department of Homeland Security recently released the Residential Fire Fatalities data that shows an overall decrease in fire fatalities over the last few years.

The data is laid out in an interactive map of the state that includes the location, cause, and amount of fatalities involved with the recorded fires across the state.

While the map records data as far back as 2019, according to a post made by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, there were a total of 71 fatalities related to fires last year alone, 12 of which were children. However, the data also shows that fire fatalities across the state have been in decline with 86 fatalities in 2019, 73 in 2020, and 77 in 2021.
