TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A fire briefly disrupted classes this morning at a local elementary school, but the Vigo County School Corporation says all students were safe throughout and have since returned to learning.

According to the VCSC, Ouabache Elementary had a small fire break out Thursday morning. Communication Specialist Teresa Stuckey said that the fire department was able to assess the situation and ensure the safety of students and staff.

What caused the fire and the exact location in the building where it took place have not been released.

As of 11 a.m., students had returned to regularly scheduled activities and are back in their classrooms. Stuckey said that the corporation was pleased with the quick response of students and staff in following safety and evacuation procedures.
