EDWARDSPORT, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Update: Fire crews were called out to a large fire in Edwardsport at what’s being described as a former lumber yard that had been converted into a salvage yard.
According to officials with Edwardsport Volunteer Fire, the call came in at approximately 9:30 p.m. Eventually, as many as 6 fire stations were involved in the battle located on First Street.
The blaze took 5 hours to put out with crews leaving at 2:30 a.m., there were no occupants in the building at the time. 14 fire trucks and 60 personnel used an estimated 80,000 gallons of water during the battle.
The investigation into what caused the fire has been turned over to the Indiana Fire Marshal’s office. A representative of the State Fire Marshal stated that the cause is currently undetermined and still being investigated.
