VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A fire quickly burned down a detached garage in the 1800 block of Durkees Ferry Road Monday morning.

According to New Goshen Fire Chief Terry Meadlo, when firefighters got to the property at 6:48 a.m. the fire had engulfed the building. Meadlo stated that 20 minutes after he arrived on scene the fire had been knocked down, but so had the garage itself due to the damage.

Meadlo said the roof initially collapsed followed by the walls as firefighters worked to remove hot spots in the rubble and keep the fire contained to the detached garage. Meadlo said the house nearby suffered some external heat damage with the siding melting at the point closest to the fire.

Firefighters believe the cause of the fire to be electrical, as the homeowner had advised the fire began in one corner where an appliance had been plugged in, and investigators found a hole melted into the breaker box.

No one was injured. The garage is considered a loss.
