TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Vigo County Commissioners held its second meeting to hear community opinion on the future of the Markle Mill Dam.
This was the first public input meeting. Commissioners and other county officials were available to answer questions from the public.
Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer confirmed that no decision has been made yet on the future of the dam.
He mentioned that the permitting process to potentially remove the dam would take six months. This project would be funded mostly by grant money.
Switzer said that many of the questions at the meeting were regarding the wildlife in the area.
“There’s a lot of fishing here at Markle Mill Dam,” Switzer said. “There was a lot of people here who were just in support of fishing and wildlife.”
When a decision is made on the dam, it will be announced at a commissioners meeting.
