VIGO County, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A Terre Haute father was charged with driving while intoxicated, and neglect, among other things, following a traffic stop where police found his children in the vehicle.
Indiana State Police stopped a vehicle for expired plates and an equipment violation at 9th Street and 1st Avenue around 5 p.m. Thursday. The trooper identified the driver as Ricky R. Combs Jr., 33, of Terre Haute.
According to ISP, Combs showed signs of impairment. He failed several field sobriety tests. A chemical test showed he had a blood alcohol content of .12%.
He was taken to the Vigo County Jail. Vigo County Department of Child Services was contacted about his children, ages 4 and 9. They were released to a family member.
Combs was charged with driving while intoxicated with a passenger less than 18 years of age, neglect of a dependent, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (prior conviction), and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
