VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two people have died following a motorcycle vs vehicle crash that has caused traffic to be shut down along a portion of U.S. Hwy 150 in northwestern Vigo County.

Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse confirmed that a double fatal crash occurred near the intersection of U.S. 150 and W. Sanford Road.

According to a Facebook post from The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, “Once on scene, deputies learned that the motorcycle was southbound on US Hwy 150, and that the truck turned into its path attempting to turn west onto Sanford Rd. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The statement continued, “The driver of the truck, 34 year old Mitchell Lankford was transported to the hospital where he later tested positive for a controlled substance. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Vigo County Jail charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance resulting in death.

 A crash reconstruction team along with the Vigo County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.

 The names of the deceased are not being released at this time.”
