SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — According to Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom, two people are dead and one person is in the hospital after a crash Sunday morning.

Authorities were dispatched to the intersection of State Road 48 and County Road 200 E. just before 10:30 a.m.

Mallorie Cochran, 16, was the sole occupant of one vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Perry Deschamp, 58, who is believed to be the driver of the second vehicle, was also killed.

Karla Deschamp, a passenger in the second vehicle, has since been released from an Indianapolis hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Mallory Cochran was a junior at North Central High School in Farmersburg, Ind. Today, “Love on a Leash” therapy dogs were at the school to help students cope with the loss. Extra counselors were also available for students.

According to the school’s principal Nancy Liston, Cochran was the junior class president and kind to others. The school’s theme right now is “love like Mallory,” Liston said.

Liston added that unfortunately Cochran’s death follows that of three North Central students killed in a wreck in December of 2018.

“Sad part is these students have been through this before and it’s still pretty, pretty raw so it’s gonna be tough for these students,” Liston said. “But, we’re a family and we’re gonna be there for them and they know that.”

According to Liston, the school is already collecting plastic bottle caps to create a bench in Cochran’s honor. It will be placed either at the track or near the cross country course, where the teen spent a lot of time.
