WABASH VALLEY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: In response to the public during Thursday’s meeting, the US Environmental Protection Agency has extended the window to provide public feedback until Monday, August 21.

Original: The EPA held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the addition of carbon injection wells to both Vigo and Vermillion counties.

This meeting’s purpose was to get the opinion of the local residents about these potential additions. These additions have undergone all of the proper protocol in order to be qualified for an official draft permit with the EPA.

Andrew Greenhagen is the Supervising Geologist for the underground injection with the underground control section for EPA and he goes into more detail about the proposal.

“Wabash Carbon Services applied for two underground injection control permits with our office.”

The EPA says they studied the area, and it qualifies to have the wells.

“We’ve done our evaluation with those applications and produced a draft permit,” added Greenhagen.

The EPA says it will further look at the information it collected, and the comments presented at this meeting before making a final decision.
