TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– After ripping off the wrapping paper and opening up boxes under the tree, many may wonder ‘What should we do with all that leftover trash?’

We spoke with ReThink Inc. in Terre Haute and they provided us with tips to help you get rid of all your holiday materials correctly.

Materials like gift boxes, tissue paper, gift bags, cards and envelopes are all considered recyclable.

Some wrapping papers can be recycled too as long it is non-metallic.

Other materials like bubble wrap, ribbons and bows should be saved or reused.

Shikha Bhattacharyya, executive director at ReThink, Inc. said If you don’t properly get rid of these items, it could harm the environment.

“What happens is the amount of trash we generate, then we send that waste material we call trash to landfills,” she said. “In the landfills we create a lot of water pollution, chemical sleet in the ground water, a lot of air pollution. But more importantly, places are running out of landfill space. “

People with recyclable materials are encouraged to drop them off at ReThink, Inc. on N. 23th Street or at the drop off center on Haythorne Avenue.
