VIGO, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County residents were able to drop off old electronics in a safe location as part of E-Waste Day.
The event was put on by the Vigo County Solid Waste Management District. Residents brought everything from tv’s, computers, printers, monitors and more.
Karrum Nasser, executive director for the Vigo County Solid Waste Management, says the line was down the street an hour before the event began.
After the first hour, they had already seen 300 cars come through the drop-off. he adds that people using this service is a great way to help the environment.
“The average household has over 25 electronic devices,” said Nasser. “Spent over 400 billion dollars a year on electronics, so this gives a way for the residents to be able to dispose of those without it having to go into a landfill.”
Nasser says this event is special because residents don’t have to resort to leaving big electronics on the street.
