EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Effingham Fire Department has been awarded the Illinois OSHA Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program Award (SHARP).

The department was presented with the award on Tuesday at the city council meeting. The SHARP award distinguishes employers who have used Illinois OSHA’s on-site consultation program to develop and successfully implement exemplary safety and health programs. Industries that are below the national average for injury and illness rates are eligible for the SHARP award.

“The award is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Effingham Fire Department personnel in upholding the highest standards of safety and health,” said Brant Yochum, Chief of the Effingham Fire Department. “Our team’s unwavering focus on safety not only ensures the well-being of our firefighters but also enhances our ability to protect and serve the Effingham community effectively.”

The presentation of the award took place at 5:00 p.m. in the council chamber. Mike Schutzbach, Effingham Mayor was in attendance.

“We are incredibly proud of the Effingham Fire Department for achieving this level of recognition,” Schutzbach said. “Safety and health excellence is paramount for our first responders, and this award is evidence of their hard work and dedication to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.”
