EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — One person was taken to the hospital with what police are describing as non-life-threatening injuries following a crash with two semi tractor-trailers on I-57.

According to Illinois State Police at approximately 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, a 16-year old female driving a Chevy Malibu was attempting to enter I-57 southbound near mile marker 159.

The 16-year-old was following a semi tractor-trailer along the ramp, once on I-57 she allegedly attempted to pass the semi and struck a second semi tractor-trailer in the left lane. The vehicle ended up making contact with both semi tractor-trailers, with all three coming to a stop on the right shoulder.

The 16-year-old was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As a result of the investigation, ISP troopers have cited the 16-year-old with driving without a valid license, improper lane usage, and failing to wear a seatbelt.
