SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As the community goes through this difficult time, residents in surrounding areas are stepping up to help.

Some Terre Haute residents will be joined by the Easter bunny to deliver goodies to families in Sullivan.

Local resident Samantha Bethel has organized an effort to deliver Easter baskets to children in Sullivan who were impacted by the tornado.

They’ll be putting the baskets together on Friday, but are still in need of donations to make the baskets complete. Bezel says they need about 100 more baskets along with stuffed animals, and candy to fill the baskets with.

A number of local businesses have stepped up to help. As well as organizations like the VFW Post 972 and the Terre Haute Eagles Aerie 291.

“Samantha plays bingo at our facility and she got ahold of us and said we could use the capability of the eagles to get donations, use our facilities to build things and this is what we do so we were ready to help,” said Tom Hanna, representative of Terre Haute Eagles Aerie 291.

The baskets will be distributed on Friday starting at 3:00 p.m. at Sullivan First United Methodist Church. The group will then walk with the Easter bunny through the impacted area to hand out baskets to families who couldn’t make it to the church.

Hanna says you can drop off donations at the Terre Haute Eagles Aerie 291, located at 823 Poplar Street, or call 812-232-5550. Bethel also provided a number 812-814-8147 for those who want to be involved.
