Disciplinary action expected in inmate release; Shepherd still wanted by authorities

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Disciplinary action is expected in the inadvertent release of an inmate from the Vigo County Jail.

On Sept. 5, Gregg F. Shepherd was released from the jail without a court order, and jail administration is still working to figure out exactly what went wrong.

“We’re still wrapping up the investigation on how the man was released improperly without a judges order,” said Sheriff John Plasse. “I should have that finished up today or tomorrow.”

Plasse confirmed disciplinary action is expected once the investigation is complete.

Shepherd had been detained at the jail on pending charges of criminal confinement, battery and theft. Authorities are working on a few leads to track him down.

“We’re still currently looking for him and working with other agencies where you get tips as to where he may be located,” said Plasse. “Right now we believe he is not in the area, and is either in the Kentucky or Tennessee area.”

Two additional warrants have been issued for Shepherd’s arrest.
