SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local restaurants in Sullivan are cooking up funds for the new city pool.
Starting Wednesday, Sept. 9, each participating restaurant will begin donating 10% of their proceeds to the revitalization of the city pool. That will be happening until the end of the week.
Construction began on the pool in mid-August with hopes of it being finished by the summer of 2022. The old pool served the community for more than 50 years. It closed in 2018, because it was in need of several repairs.
The new pool will have the same footprint as the old pool built in 1963, but with added upgrades like water features, a rock wall and shaded areas. Parts of the old pool have been removed including the slide, diving boards and cement decking.
J.D. Wilson, director of Public Works, said it is amazing to bring the community together at a time like this.
“This is a great community,” Wilson said. “They come together in time of need like this. These businesses, the owners, the workers at it, you can’t beat these places.”
Owner of Joe’s Italian Restaurant Nora Leone said they will be participating in this event until Friday evening and are excited to be participating.
“It’s so nice to see all the local businesses pull together, give back to the community,” Leone said. “They’ve all been so wonderful and patient through the whole COVID.”
