EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WTWO/WAWV)– Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker took home a decisive victory over Republican Darren Bailey in his bid for re-election on Tuesday, but around the Wabash Valley, Bailey had strong support.
Across six Illinois counties we looked into– Clark, Crawford, Edgar, Jasper, Lawrence and Richland– Bailey received at least 75% of the votes cast in all six. Jasper was his biggest margin, where he received almost 85% of the vote.
Bailey thanked his supporters in a speech following his loss on Tuesday.
“Friends, the greatest blessing the past two years has been hearing your voices, your struggles, the worries that keep us up at night, listening to you,” he said.
Bailey spoke on Facebook Live Wednesday, and while he didn’t outline what his next steps would be, he said he believed a movement had started across the state and he will continue to fight for his supporters.
Pritzker will now enter his second term as the Governor of Illinois.
