TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– As we near Halloween, some families got in on the festivities early as the Terre Haute Parks Department hosted their “Unhaunted Happenings” event.

It took place Saturday at Deming Park, and focuses on Halloween fun without the scares.

Attendees were able to dress up for the holiday while enjoying activities such as wagon and train rides, face painting, a straw maze for the smaller kids and decorated pumpkins.

Kilie Smith, the director of recreation for the parks department, said this is a crucial event to offer for families around the area.

“So important for everyone to come together and enjoy the spirit of Halloween,” she said. “Especially in the environment where anyone who might be scared of the more intense Halloween activities, they can come on down and have some fun here and enjoy lots of activities that are not so scary and just as fun.”

On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27th and 28th, the parks department will hold their haunted Halloween event from 7 to 10 p.m.
