Dead body discovered in Wabash River identified by DNR

UPDATE: The Indiana Department of Natural Resources identified the body recovered from the Wabash River on Aug. 15 in a news release Wednesday. The body has been identified as Renold D. Elp, 53, of Vincennes.

The cause of death is still under investigation, according to the release. This is a developing story, follow for updates. 

KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An investigation by Indiana Conservation Officers is underway after a body was discovered Sunday afternoon in the Wabash River in Knox County.

According to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources news release, a fisherman called 911 at approximately 12:49 p.m. on Aug. 15 to report he found what he believed to be a body in the river. DNR officers responded and confirmed the dead body Sunday afternoon.

Indiana Conservation Officers, Vincennes Township Fire Department and Washington Township Fire Department then recovered the body. The identity of the person found and their cause of death is still unknown and is pending autopsy results.
