Crane hoping for permit for new hazardous waste treatment unit

Local News

CRANE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center has requested a permit to expand its base to include a new hazardous waste treatment unit.

The purpose of the facility would be to safely dispose of rocket motor propellant, according to a notice recently provided by Crane.

A virtual hearing on the request was held Thursday evening on Zoom. Officials with Crane say a 60-day notice to the public was required for this request.

So far, officials say they haven’t had any opposing viewpoints, but people are encouraged to reach out and ask questions.

Concerns will be considered before the approval of the permit. A copy of the request can be found at the Bedford Public Library.
