TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A company could begin renovations on the old K-Mart building on US Highway 41 in Terre Haute, Ind. after officials submitted a building permit application on Oct. 1 to remodel and use the space.
According to documents from Vigo County Area Planning, T&W Construction based in Indianapolis submitted an application to do a total remodel of the building at 4661 S. US 41. In a description of the proposed work, the company said it would undergo “interior renovation to create ‘white box’ for a future tenant.”
One potential tenant mentioned in the proposal is Hobby Lobby, with other areas of the 116,314 square foot to be filled by other retailers or companies.
The current owner of the building is Teachers Retirement System of the State of Kentucky. According to T&W’s application, the total valuation of the proposed work is $6 million.
The building has not been occupied since K-Mart left the space in mid-2016.
