TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTWO/WAWV) — Hundreds of family and friends came together to celebrate the life of Coach Pickens at a benefit, on Saturday.
The benefit was held at the Idle Creek Banquet Center.
The event included: dinner, poker, super bowl squares, a raffle, and silent auction that had nearly 100 items.
The benefit was planned before Pickens passed away, to support him in his illness.
Kyle Kramer, a friend of Pickens, said that Coach Pickens would have told him he didn’t have to plan an event in his honor.
“We all wish he could be here with us. That was our intention… to have him here with us. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. But, what a wonderful way to honor a wonderful man,” Kyle Kraemer said.
All the proceeds from Saturday’s benefit will go to the coaches family.
