TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local organization spent the day preparing for a gathering this weekend that raises awareness about an issue many face.

On Saturday, the Loyal Veteran’s Battalion in Terre Haute will host its third annual Homeless Awareness Day.

It will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Gilbert Park at 14th and Wabash. There will be community resources there including free haircuts. Hotdogs, chips, and cold drinks will also be served.

The main goal of the event is to raise awareness.

“It’s just our way of saying look, there’s a need out here and we need people to come see the resources are available for them and for someone they may know, and that way they can spread the word as we do about homelessness in Terre Haute,” said Michael Egy, president of Loyal Veterans Battalion,

Egy said the Loyal Veteran’s Battalion always appreciates volunteers and monetary donations. Their donation day is the third Wednesday of every month.

Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to attend their meeting from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Loyal Veteran’s Battalion is located at 1000 South 14th Street.
