TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local faith-based non-profit works to make a difference for children in Terre Haute.

The efforts are made possible thanks to the non-profits community center, but now the 14th and Chesnut Community Center needs help to keep the building in good condition.

Next month, the 14th and Chestnut Community Center will hold its Gifts from the Heart Banquet. The banquet offers a free dinner and a chance for people to learn more about the organization.

However, the community is being invited to help sponsor the event. So any money raised at the banquet will go toward getting a new roof for the community center. The expected cost of replacing the roof is $85,000 thousand dollars.

“This is a very old building and we appreciate all the space we have and just how amazing it is but the roof on it has been patched and little parts replaced and this and that over the years and we do have a couple of times, especially with the rain recently, where we’ve had leaks,” said Amanda Otieno.

The Gifts from the Heart Banquet will be on April 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sycamore Banquet Center inside ISU’s Student Union. Registration is required to attend.

Those interested in learning more, attending the event, or donating can visit the 14th and Chesnut Community Center website or call (812) 232-3126.
