SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Two local colleges are honoring the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks as Friday marks the 19th anniversary.

Sigma Alpha Lambda of Indiana State University partnered with Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College to create a flag display.

Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Scholars, faculty and staff members placed more than 2,000 flags on the SMWC campus on Tuesday. Each flag represents a victim of the attacks.

The flags will line the Avenue on campus, leading to the fountain and around Le Fer Lake.

“That’s the partnership: allowing those in the community and around to come out to remember their loved ones, the survivors and the victims, to come out to the campus and take that moment of silence,” says Sarah Mahady, Director of Alumni relations at SMWC.

ISU’s Sigma Alpha Lambda chapter started the commemoration in 2007. Both college campuses are displaying flags through September 14.
