TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local group hopes to help families in need through its Spread the Love food drive.
The Tobacco Free Vigo Coalition is collecting non-perishable food items for local children and families.
The food collected will be taken to the Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank.
The coalition says many children in Vigo County use the free or reduced school lunch program and families may struggle to feed their children during summer break.
“This is just a really aspect of their health. The Tobacco Free Vigo Coalition focuses on the health of the community, but a really important piece of that is also nutrition,” says Sarah Knoblock, Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coordinator for Vigo County.
The food drive is going on throughout the month of June. People can drop off food at Baesler’s in Terre Haute or buy a food bag for the drive at the checkout.
