BRAZIL, Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) – Local government, stakeholders and major employers in Clay County gathered to recognize the important role manufacturers have on the community.
Manufacturers Appreciation Day was held at Brazil’s Great Dane.
Great Dane Brazil Plant Manager Cory Lookebill said the event has been in the works for some time.
“We were approached by the County Commissioners and the Clay County Redevelopment Commission a few months ago about possibly hosting the event,” Lookebill said.
Clay County Redevelopment Commission President Tom Ames said it’s important that the commission checks in on local companies.
“We usually meet up with 4 to 5 manufacturers each year and visit them regarding expansion or new equipment purchases.”
However, due to the pandemic, the redevelopment commission wasn’t able to check in as frequently.
Senior Economic Advisor for Thrive West Central Jim Coffenberry said that’s why this event was necessary.
“As we reestablish I wanted all the companies to have a chance to meet with the public officials that act on their projects,” said Coffenberry.
Coffenberry added that the future for Clay County looks bright.
“We just filled our industrial park here and there are new improvements in the works for the east side,” Coffenberry said. “We are currently in the process of rebuilding a road and putting in a water tower.”
