BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Clay Community Schools is another step closer to having its own police department fully up and running.

According to Jeff Fritz, Superintendent of CCS, three police officers were hired during a school board meeting last week.

The Board of Trustees approved the school corporation having its own police department back in October. Josh Clarke was named Police Chief in December of last year.

He said other things related to the department were approved during last week’s school board meeting such as the standard operating procedures, and interagency agreements between the corporation police department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Brazil Police Department.

Fritz said previously that he hopes to have the department fully up and running by the beginning of next school year.

Fritz said he is, “very pleased with the progress that is being made in the department.”
