CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– A Bowling Green man was arrested on multiple charges following a pursuit that hit speeds of over 120 mph Friday night.

According to a release from Clay County Sheriff Brison Swearingen, a county deputy saw a black motorcycle traveling nearly 100 mph in a 55 mph zone on State Road 46 in Sugar Ridge Township shortly before 9 p.m. The officer tried to stop the driver, but they refused the commands.

The motorcycle accelerated to speeds just short of 130 mph before doing a U-turn and traveling eastbound on S.R. 46, and then turning onto S.R. 59. That’s where 30-year-old Garrett Lee Hartsock eventually tried to turn onto County Road 600 South, but was traveling too fast and crashed.

Hartsock refused treatment on the scene, and was taken into custody where he was charged with resisting law enforcement, a level six felony, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. The case is being sent to the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office for review and possible additional charge information.
