CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – According to INDOT Crawfordsville District Public Relations Director Megan DeLucenay, the completion of I-70 Construction near Clay County has been pushed back.

During the operation, crews found additional portions that needed patchwork. The project involves the stretch of interstate between exit 23 to exit 29.

Construction in and around the area is expected to be done by the end of the 2022 construction season which is around October. Construction was originally expected to be complete in July.

“During the planned operation, our crews found some additional patchwork that needed to be done so that extended the end date of the project,” DeLucenay said.

With the added time on the project, DeLucenay urged the public to continue to remain patient as they work to get this project complete.

“We appreciate the continued patience and cooperation of the traveling public,” DeLucenay said.

Like many other construction projects, inflation played a role in the delay of this project. However, DeLucenay added that weather has taken a heavy toll on construction season.

“A majority of our delays are due to weather,” DeLucenay explained. “Work on those days had to take a break and wait for everything to dry.”

This isn’t the only I-70 project going on in our area. Expect lane closures as you cross the state line. This work from the border to the bridge over the Wabash River will not be complete until next construction season.

“That operation is expected to last until June of 2023,” DeLucenay said.

DeLucenay went on to say that State Road 63 is back open. However some shoulder work is expected to be completed in the coming months.

State Road 159 is going to open up soon in Vigo County. Right now, it’s closed between State Road 246 and Louisville road due to bridge construction work.

It’s expected to reopen at the end of August.

In Sullivan County, which is not INDOT West Central’s district, State Road 159 is closed between S. C.R. 850 E. and E. C.R. 500 S. due to a bridge replacement project. It’s expected to last through the mid-September.

There is ongoing bridge construction work happening on U.S. 41 in both directions between State Road 236 and State Road 47.

The speed is reduced to 35 MPH through the work zone. There is also a traffic signal in place. This project is expected to last through the end of September.

On State Road 46 in Clay County, there are alternating lane closures for bridge replacement work between Anderson Road and Bixler Road.

Crews are replacing the Branch Six Mile Creek bridge. Traffic is currently alternating through a restriction zone monitored by a temporary traffic signal.

That project is expected to last through the end of September.
