CLARK COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has announced an upcoming extended road closure that will last for at least 5 months.
According to a post from the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, US Highway 40 at Baystown Road will be closed to all traffic starting on April 3 for a bridge replacement project.
The post states the project is expected to take at least 5 months, or “likely longer” and that traffic heading westbound will be able to turn onto Baystown Road, and any eastbound traffic will be stopped at Arbuckle Road. The post also advises residents to begin finding alternate routes now.
Joe Schatteman, IDOT Communications Liasion said the construction is expected to last through the month of August.
“The bridge over East Mill Creek about two miles west of Marshall will be replaced. The closure of U.S. 40 between Martinsville and Marshall begins Monday, April 3, and will last through the end of August. A state route detour utilizing Interstate 70 will be posted. Only local traffic will be permitted on U.S. 40 between Cumberland Street east of Martinsville to East National Road west of Marshall during the bridge replacement. The replacement bridge will provide motorists with a more safe and smoother driving surface,” Schatteman said.
All commercial trucks are advised to take I-70 as a detour rather than use the township roads.
