CLARK CO, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: Two separate accidents involving a total of 6 vehicles caused traffic delays on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70.

It happened on the evening of September 1, just east of Marshall near the area of 151.

According to Sgt. Christopher Watson with the Illinois State Police, the first accident happened at 5:39 p.m. and was caused by a backup in construction traffic.

It involved three commercial motor vehicles and one SUV.

There was one citation issued for failure to reduce speed.

The second incident involved two commercial motor vehicles. It was caused by one driver attempting to switch lanes.

Two people in one vehicle were sent to the hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was cited for improper lane usage.

Traffic is likely to become rerouted to Marshall on Route 40.

Their Facebook page indicates the incidents are between the scales and the state line.

Motorists are asked to adjust accordingly and to prepare for heavier traffic being re-routed off of I-70.
