TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The City of Terre Haute announced Wednesday that employees will begin picking up leaves in the area of Wabash Avenue to 8th Avenue, from N. 1st Street to N. Fruitridge Avenue.

The leaf pick up will begin Monday, Nov. 22 and last through Nov. 23. City employees will then continue north bound during the following weeks.

An updated leaf pickup schedule will be announced each week and a regularly updated schedule will be available on the city’s website and Facebook page.

The city also provided some key notes about the pick up:

  • Some crews may periodically work in other areas of the city that have large amounts of leaves to keep storm drains open. If you see crews working outside the “scheduled” area do not be concerned if you do not have your leaves ready. They will be back during the officially scheduled week.
  • Once initial pickup is completed throughout the entire city, crews will make a second pass through areas with significant remaining leaves. Call 311 at that time to request a second pick-up.
  • Have leaves raked neatly into a pile in the tree row and not into the street. Crews will come through and blow them into the street prior to pick up. This prevents storm sewers from becoming plugged which causes streets to flood.

The leaf pick up schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.
