BRAZIL, Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) – Thanksgiving is now behind us, and Christmas festivities are taking place in the Valley. The famous Christmas Parade of Lights took to the streets of Brazil Friday evening.

“You gotta have Christmas spirit. It’s a very uplifting kinda thing,” Spectator Jaden Smith said.

Christmas spirit filled the streets of Brazil this evening ahead of the annual Christmas Parade of Lights. Over 100 local organizations participated in this year’s parade.

Money donated to the organizations goes towards Toys for Tots and Shop With a Cop.

Organizer Justin Meneely said it’s important to give back.

“Very excited to see how the kids react. A lot of these kids. Some of these kids never get candy like this,” Meneely said.

Volunteers were also handing out free hot chocolate and cookies. Smith says it’s all about being around the family.

“That enjoyment of being around family and being around loved ones and just having a good time,” Smith said.

Following the parade, Forest Park had live entertainment, lighted displays, and fireworks.

“Be thankful of the ones around you because they’re not gonna be here long and you need to take every moment you can to enjoy the time that you have with them,” Smith said.

The Hometown Christmas Event will also be happening Nov. 26th, at Brazil’s City Hall.
