WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The West Terre Haute Public Library Branch welcomed some furry friends Wednesday night.

Read to Rover is a program where children get to share a book with certified therapy dogs brought in by volunteers from Love on a Leash. The purpose of the program is for children to be able to practice reading aloud in a stress-free environment.

Love on a Leash is a nonprofit volunteer organization that allows qualified therapy volunteers to provide effective pet therapy services in their community.

Love on a Leash Wabash Valley leader Lauren Elyea said this is great for children who are struggling with reading.

“It’s nice because it’s a very non-threatening environment for kids who maybe are struggling to read or having problems reading. The dogs are a totally non-judgmental audience who you know aren’t going to care if somethings not pronounced right or a word is missed,” Elyea said.

Read to rover will be on every third Wednesday of the month and all you have to do is call the West Terre Haute Library Branch to schedule a session, at 812-235-2121.
