MATTOON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Charleston, Illinois man is accused of bribing a juror in an attempt to overturn a guilty verdict in a DUI trial.

Mattoon Police arrested 41-year-old Joshua D. Foss Monday on charges of bribery.

Authorities believe that throughout the time of late April to early June, Foss made contact with a juror who served on the Christopher Whitley DUI trial. Foss allegedly attempted to bribe the juror to help overturn the original guilty verdict.

Foss’s arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the trial where the guilty verdict was ruled a mistrial, but was later reinstated.

Foss was transported to the Coles County Jail pending posting of bond.
