VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A caucus will be held later this month to determine who will fill the Vigo County Council-at-Large seat previously held by Don Morris.
Morris and his wife Cheryl Hart were killed when they were struck by a vehicle while walking in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Morris was elected as a Democrat. Therefore, Chair of the Democratic Central Committee in Vigo County Joe Etling has called a caucus for June 24. Etling said the caucus will involve 87 precinct committee persons of Vigo County.
“I will chair that caucus and a vote will be conducted until a candidate receives a majority of the votes cast,” Etling said. “Once a candidate receives the majority of the votes cast, then they’ll be declared the victor of that caucus and we will notify the clerk of that caucus.”
He added that people interested in filling the seat must file a declaration of candidacy form 72 hours before the caucus.
