TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Members of the community met Wednesday at Terre Haute Catholic charities to pack meals. The group has a goal of packing 400 meals on Wednesday and Thursday.
Meals will be distributed Saturday at the charity’s Bread and Produce Market, which occurs on the third Saturday of every month.
Jennifer Buell, assistant agency director for Catholic Charities, said that due to the ongoing pandemic, more people are in need of food than in years past, and being able to help those in need is a blessing.
“We know from some research that Feeding America has provided us, that we have seen about a 20% increase in the number of individuals who are in need of emergency food assistance,” she said. “Today had more than the year before, and it’s all really due to the COVID pandemic.”
Catholic Charities is still looking for volunteers. Those interested in getting involved should call (812) 232-1447 and ask for Rachel.
