TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local community center celebrated the completion of its newly-renovated gym.
Chances and Services for Youth did a complete overhaul of its gym at the Booker T. Washington Community Center. Improvements include new bleachers, a new scoreboard, a gym divider and fresh paint. A $50,000 grant from the Indianapolis NBA All-Star Legacy Project made it all possible.
Representatives from CASY and Indianapolis NBA All-Star Legacy Project, as well as local community leaders, gathered Monday at the community center for an official ribbon-cutting.
“I think each and every one of us has an opportunity to create a legacy,” Brandon Halleck, CASY COO, said. “And I think that’s what we do here working with these children in the community. How can we further not just our own individual legacy, but the legacy of our future generations?”
Halleck said it took about six to eight months to complete the project. CASY was selected for the grant from almost 200 statewide nonprofit applicants.
