TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local brewer is teaming up with a winery to help reignite his passion.
“Then the next thing you know, we’re in the back making beer,” Doug Haase, head brewer, said.
That’s not something you hear too often. But if you know Haase, former owner of TJ Haase Winery, you’re probably not surprised.
“After taking a little bit of a break, which was well needed, you know you kind of get that itching back that you want to brew and do some things and I reached out to Tyler because I knew he had a beer license,” Haase said.
Owner of WaterTower Estates, Tyler Woodward, said he made and sold beer in previous years.
However, it quickly became a lot to do on his own.
“He’d always say, ‘Hey if you need any help in the back, just let me know. I’d be more than [happy] to come help you out’ and so finally we took him up on that offer,” Woodward said.
Haase and Chas Johnson are brewing the beer with Tyler, which officially launched this week.
“[It’s] Buck-Light so it’s Doug and Chas’s recipe that they’ve created. It’s a really good, light ale. It’s just very smooth and very easy to drink,” Woodward said.
Haase said he has known the Woodwards for years, and it’s funny to see how life always lands you exactly where you need to be.
“We get to make the beer, do what we love doing,” Haase said. “And we don’t have to mess with the business side, the permits, the taxes, none of that stuff. It’s just going in and having fun and enjoying yourself and hopefully making some good beer.”
The beer will only be at WaterTower’s Wabash location for now, which is located at 1313 Wabash Avenue.
They hope to add it to the Springhill location soon, along with more recipes.
