MARTIN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A series of brush fires over the weekend prompted Martin County Commissioners to issue a burn ban for the county.
According to County Board president Paul George, the local EMA director advised the board to issue the ban after the weekend fires.
George said burn bans are typical this time of year.
“We just happened to be the first county to do it this year,” he said.
Commissioners are required to renew a burn ban in seven day increments. George anticipates renewing the burn ban next week.
“Unless we get two or three or four inches of rain, but I don’t see that happening,” he said.
