NEW GOSHEN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: As of Thursday morning at 9 a.m., the Fayette Township Water Association have lifted the boil order that had been in place.

Original: Customers of the Fayette Township Water Association are being asked to boil water before use until further notice.

A boil order has been activated due to a malfunctioning chlorinator. The group says the order is a precautionary move.

The order will remain in place until further notice.

The CDC’s guidance for how to properly boil water during these situations is as follows:

  • Fill a pot with water.
  • Heat the water until bubbles come from the bottom of the pot to the top.
  • Once the water reaches a rolling boil, let it boil for 1 minute.
  • Turn off the heat source and let the water cool.
  • Pour the water into a clean container with a cover for storage.
