TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A crash in an alleyway reportedly cut short a man’s attempt to escape arrest by police while fleeing on a moped.

That’s according to the Terre Haute Police Department, which said the incident occurred at 1:57 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of N. 14th Street and Liberty Avenue.

Police said the moped had been traveling on the wrong side of the road and failed to stop at a stop sign. As police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled into a nearby alleyway.

However, police said he didn’t get far before crashing the moped in the alley and being arrested.

42-year-old Robert Harris, of Terre Haute, was then taken to the Vigo County Jail on the preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
