TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Anti-death penalty protesters continued their demonstrations outside the Terre Haute Federal Prison on Tuesday.

Many of them have protested on the day of every execution so far.

Some include anti-death penalty advocates from Death Penalty Action Now and Sisters of Providence.

One protester is a lawyer from Indianapolis.

She said last month, Christopher Vialva, scheduled to be executed Thursday became an inmate she wanted to help. This came after Vialva e-mailed her, sharing appreciation for her work against the death penalty.

She said it was important for her to step in and show others his human side.

“I’ve gotten dozens of letters from death row inmates talking about Chris and how he’s the hope in the hopeless place. And he’s the light in one of the darkest places in America. He inspires every one and they will straight up tell you there are some unrepentant people here, tere are some bad people that we understand why they might be in here, but Christopher is not one of those,” said Ashley Kincaid Eve.

According to Kincaid Eve, she, Vialva and another partner founded a non-profit earlier this month. It’s called Social Justice Workers Inc. It will be recognized as a 501(c)3 in Indiana.
