Vigo County Health Department eyes former Sears building for vaccination clinic

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With the possibility of more vaccines coming to the area, the Vigo Community Health Department is looking to relocate, allowing more Hoosiers to be safely vaccinated.

According to Health Educator, Roni Elder, contracts are underway to make the old Sears building a new vaccination site.

“We’ll continue to see as the vaccines rollout. It’s so important for people to have the right location especially for the elderly people. It’s just as important to have restroom facilities and have room to be able to be socially distant. We take all of those things into account,” Elder said.

Currently, shots are being administered at the county Annex building in Terre Haute; however, the Vigo County Health Department expects more patients to make appointments to receive the vaccine if they receive more doses from the state.

“Having a bigger facility has always been on our mind. When we first received the vaccine, we didn’t receive that many at first so we could handle it here at The Annex, but we know that’s going to change,” Elder said.

Appointments are available at The Annex until Feb. 22. If approved, Sears will then be listed as an official site.
